As a digital publisher of news and current affairs, GNM will comply with the applicable provisions of Part III of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, including the applicable Code of Ethics and grievance-redressal framework. The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting administers this framework for publishers of news and current affairs on digital media.

GNM will also comply with applicable data-protection requirements, including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025, to the extent and from the dates applicable to GNM.

5. Accuracy and Corrections

GNM makes reasonable efforts to verify information before publication.

However, news and current affairs can change rapidly.

Therefore:

  • Information may be updated;
  • Reports may be corrected;
  • Articles may be amended;
  • Headlines may be changed;
  • Clarifications or corrections may be issued where appropriate.

GNM does not guarantee that every item will remain complete, current or error-free at all times.

Nothing published by GNM should automatically be treated as professional legal, medical, financial, investment or other specialist advice.

6. Public / Citizen Portal

GNM may operate a separate Public platform allowing citizens to submit:

  • News
  • Ground reports
  • Photographs
  • Videos
  • Public-interest information
  • Supporting documents or material

The Public Portal is intended to provide citizens with an opportunity to bring relevant ground-level information to GNM.

Submission does not guarantee publication.

All submissions may be subject to:

Verification → Editorial Review → Approval → Publication

GNM may:

  • Approve a submission;
  • Reject a submission;
  • Hold a submission;
  • Request additional information;
  • Request verification;
  • Edit or format material for legitimate editorial, legal or language purposes.

GNM retains final editorial control over publication.

7. Verification of Public Contributors

GNM may require contributors to verify their identity through:

  • Mobile number;
  • Email address;
  • Other appropriate verification methods.

Additional verification may be requested depending on the nature of the submission.

Verification does not mean that GNM automatically accepts the truthfulness of the submitted information.

8. Anonymous or Confidential Publication

A contributor may request that their identity not be publicly displayed.

GNM may, where appropriate and legally permissible, publish material without publicly identifying the contributor.

However:

Anonymous publication does not necessarily mean anonymous submission.

GNM may retain identifying information for verification, security, legal compliance, investigation of complaints or other lawful purposes.

GNM cannot guarantee confidentiality where disclosure is required by applicable law, court order or lawful governmental process.

9. Contributor Responsibility

By submitting content, you confirm that, to the best of your knowledge:

  • The information is genuine and not knowingly fabricated;
  • You have the necessary rights or authority to submit the material;
  • The material has not been unlawfully obtained;
  • You are not impersonating another person;
  • You are not knowingly submitting malicious files;
  • You will not deliberately mislead GNM or its readers.

You remain responsible for unlawful material submitted by you, subject to applicable law.

10. Photos, Videos and Documents

If you upload photographs, videos or documents, you confirm that you have the necessary rights or authority to submit them.

You should not upload material containing another person’s private or sensitive information without an appropriate lawful basis or authority.

GNM may refuse, remove or restrict material where reasonably necessary for legal, privacy, security, editorial or other legitimate reasons.

11. Licence for Public Submissions

By submitting content to GNM, you grant GNM a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence, to the extent permitted by law, to:

  • Host;
  • Store;
  • Reproduce;
  • Edit;
  • Translate;
  • Adapt;
  • Format;
  • Publish;
  • Distribute;
  • Communicate;
  • Display

the submitted material through GNM’s website, applications, social-media accounts, video platforms and other GNM-operated or authorised media channels.

This licence is necessary to allow GNM to operate and distribute submitted content.

Ownership of your original copyright does not automatically transfer to GNM merely because you submit content.

12. Removal or Modification of Submitted Content

GNM may remove, modify, restrict or stop displaying submitted content where reasonably necessary because of:

  • Legal requirements;
  • Copyright complaints;
  • Privacy concerns;
  • Defamation or other legal concerns;
  • Inaccurate information;
  • Security concerns;

  • Social-media content.

AI-generated or AI-assisted material is not automatically considered verified journalism.

GNM’s editorial team remains responsible for final verification, editorial judgment and publication.

14. AI Search

GNM may provide an AI-powered search feature such as “Ask GNM”.

AI search results are intended to assist users in discovering and understanding GNM content.

AI systems may occasionally produce inaccurate, incomplete or outdated responses.

Users should consult the underlying article or authoritative source for important information.

15. AI Translation and Localisation

GNM may use AI-assisted translation.

The purpose is to produce a natural, context-aware version of content rather than merely performing word-for-word translation.

AI translation may consider:

  • Context;
  • Meaning;
  • Cultural references;
  • Journalistic tone;
  • Language conventions.

GNM may subject translated material to editorial review before publication.

16. Intellectual Property

Unless otherwise stated, GNM owns or has appropriate rights in its original:

  • Website design;
  • Logo;
  • Brand identity;
  • Articles;

  • Layout;
  • Original editorial material.

Such material may be protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.

You may not reproduce, commercially exploit, systematically copy, redistribute or republish GNM material without permission, except where permitted by law.

Nothing in these Terms restricts rights that cannot legally be restricted.

17. Copyright Complaints

Copyright owners may contact GNM regarding alleged infringement.

A complaint should contain sufficient information to identify:

  • The complainant;
  • The copyrighted work;
  • The allegedly infringing material;
  • The relevant webpage/location;
  • The complainant’s rights or basis for the complaint;
  • Supporting information.

GNM may review legitimate complaints and take appropriate action under applicable law.

GNM may display:

  • Advertisements;
  • Banner advertisements;
  • Video advertisements;
  • Sponsored content;
  • Commercial promotions;
  • Partnership content;
  • Affiliate or similar commercial material.

Where applicable, sponsored or commercial material will be appropriately identified.

The presence of an advertisement does not necessarily constitute an endorsement by GNM.

Advertising arrangements should not automatically be interpreted as giving an advertiser editorial control over GNM journalism.

20. Public Contributor Revenue Sharing

GNM may establish a revenue-sharing programme for eligible Public contributors.

If introduced, the programme will be governed by separate written rules covering:

  • Eligibility;
  • Revenue calculation;
  • Eligible content;
  • Payment;
  • Taxes;
  • Minimum payout;

23. Privacy

Your use of GNM is also governed by the GNM Privacy Policy.

The Privacy Policy explains how GNM handles personal data and forms part of these Terms.

Unauthorised attempts to:

  • Access restricted systems;
  • Bypass authentication;
  • Introduce malware;

may result in restriction of access and appropriate legal action.

However, uninterrupted access cannot be guaranteed.

The website may temporarily become unavailable due to:

  • Maintenance;
  • Updates;

26. No Unlawful Reliance

GNM content is intended primarily for news and informational purposes.

Users should independently verify important information before making decisions that could materially affect their legal, financial, medical, professional or personal interests.

  • Legal requirements.

Where appropriate and legally permissible, GNM may provide notice or an opportunity to address the issue.

30. Editorial Independence

GNM seeks to maintain editorial independence.

Advertising, sponsorship, partnerships or commercial relationships do not automatically determine GNM’s editorial decisions.

GNM may publish reporting, analysis or commentary concerning governments, political parties, companies, institutions, policies or public figures based on its editorial processes and applicable journalistic standards.

31. Grievance Redressal

GNM will maintain the grievance-redressal mechanism applicable to its digital publishing activities.
